When La Pirogue, one of Sun Resorts' most iconic hotels, was getting a major refurbishment, we knew we couldn't just show construction work. I wanted to create a teaser video that was more of a poem, hinting at the idea of renewal in a really artful way.
The hotel's name and its very architecture are inspired by the "pirogue," a traditional fishing boat. The creative concept was built entirely around that metaphor: a lone pirogue at sea, being called back to shore for a new coat of paint, symbolizing the hotel itself being renewed and reborn.
The pacing of the edit was really important. It’s deliberately slow and gentle, allowing the beautiful, hazy visuals to breathe. It’s not a fast-paced ad; it's a mood piece designed to make you feel a sense of calm and a quiet excitement for what's coming.
I'm really proud of how we told a story without being literal. The whole first half of the video is intentionally hazy and dreamlike, using silhouettes and out-of-focus shots. You feel the presence of the boat and the sea before you ever see them clearly. It was a visual way of creating a sense of memory and anticipation.
This was one of those projects where I really got to lean into a more poetic and abstract style of filmmaking. It was a great lesson in using metaphor to tell a corporate story in a deeply human and artistic way. Instead of just announcing a refurbishment, we created a small film about homecoming and new beginnings.
