This was a really fun creative exercise. I was approached by a client starting a new IT consultancy who was set on the name "Kapp Nordica." They had no specific story or meaning behind it; they just really loved the sound of it. My task was to take that name and build a whole visual identity around it from scratch.
(KAPP NORDICA)
The brief was to develop a logo and brand identity for an IT consultancy named Kapp Nordica. Since the name was a blank canvas, my creative approach was to explore different conceptual territories to see what kind of story we could tell. I ended up creating several distinct proposals. Some leaned into the "Nordica" part of the name, drawing inspiration from Nordic themes like runes, mountains, or compasses. Others focused more on the "IT Consultancy" side, with concepts built around cursors, connections, and digital signals.
The 'Nordic' concepts.
A few of the proposals, like the one with the stylized aurora borealis and the other with the hemispheres, were a direct attempt to give the name a "Nordic" or directional personality. I wanted to create a feeling of guidance, stability, and navigating complex territory, which felt like a great metaphor for an IT consultancy.
The "Digital" Concepts.
Other options were more focused on the IT world. The logo that incorporates a mouse cursor into the 'K', and the mix of cursor and compass were designed to feel more technical and modern. They were meant to communicate precision, code, and digital interaction.
The 'Abstract'
Concepts.
Some of the logos, like the one using circles to form the letters, were a more abstract way to represent ideas like networking, data, and interconnected systems. It was about creating a feel that was both professional and uniquely memorable.
This project was a fantastic exploration of how to build meaning where none exists. It was a great lesson in taking a client's initial spark of an idea—in this case, just a name they liked—and turning it into several fully-realized strategic directions. I'm really proud of the variety of stories we were able to create, each giving the name "Kapp Nordica" its own unique and fitting personality.
